Mornings 6-10

It all began long, long ago in a town far, far away. I was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the suburbs listening to the radio legends of the day: Jonathon Brandmeier, Steve Dahl and Garry Meier, Larry Lujack and Wally Phillips. Dad had Wally on and Steve made fun of him so he was hard to miss. I had to work the night of “Disco Demolition” so I missed out on that but did attend a “Coho Breakfast Club” broadcast. I have always been intrigued by radio. I started on our high school radio station WMTH, that is, until they said I had to take classes to stay on the air. When I joined the Army I pursued radio with my recruiter’s assurance it would be “just like the ones I listened to growing up”. For the record, the radios I played with were NOTHING like the ones I listened to growing up. After settling in the area after 8 years of military service, I responded to an ad for a broadcaster’s course held at WKAN. Under the tutelage of Larry Timpe I went quickly from part-time request show host on WLRT (“Your Home for America’s Music”), to afternoon host and finally morning show host on T-93. My other experiences in radio include part-time co-host with Steve Touhy on WKAN, a weekend stint at 105.5 when it was “the Pickle” and some weekend work here at X-Country plus amassing an inordinately large collection of logoed coffee mugs and outerwear. This is my third time with STARadio and I am proud to work with some of the best radio people ever. With all my on-air and sales duties, it seems I have radio in my veins (like some kind of virus) or at least there’s always a radio playing in my head. For hobbies I collect radios (because I think they’re cool), postcards (because I never go anywhere), reading (because books are too heavy to carry around if you’re not going to read them) and playing golf (because everyone needs to be able to take a long walk outside, unless you can get one of those little electric carts, and contemplate your next swear word). My family is my source of strength and will actually keep a straight face when they tell people there’s a radio person in the family.
